Grief and Trauma Therapist for Adults

Smiling person in glasses, curly hair, outdoor background.

I’m Thelma and I specialize in grief and trauma. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate life’s struggles. I love helping adults just like you: ones who have had life-changing experiences and need some help to make sense of it all.

I am a compassionate and experienced grief and trauma therapist who understands the complexities of living between two cultures. As a bicultural Mexican-American, I have a deep understanding of the challenges that come with balancing cultural traditions and beliefs while coping with the pain of loss and trauma. I understand the effects of concepts such as “ni de aqui, ni de alla” or “neither from here or there” and ‘no sabo kids’ have on bicultural individuals.

As a therapist, my goal is to help my clients find confidence, meaning, and harmony in their lives. I equip them with the tools they need to feel secure, confident, and better capable to manage their oftentimes overwhelming and conflicting feelings while always honoring their culture and values. Together, we can work towards a brighter and more fulfilling future.

Are you ready to reclaim your life and move forward with hope?

You remember a time when feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and helpless wasn’t the “norm”…but those days feel like a distant memory. Feelings of grief, uncertainty, and hopelessnessdon’t seem to stop.

Don’t you wish you knew how to change that?

You are not alone.

My Approach

My training and experiences as a grief and trauma therapist mean I have the expertise you need and deserve when coping with complex life challenges. But at the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who gets what it means to struggle to cope in today’s world. I know how hard it is to feel lost, lonely, anxious, sad, and disconnected.

So, when we work together, you won’t just get a trained therapist, you’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through. As a SAFE (somatic and attachment-focused) EMDR-trained therapist, Certified Grief Counselor, and Bibliotherapist (learn more about Bibliotherapy here), I am confident we can meet your goals for therapy.

My Specializations

If you're ready to explore your grief and trauma, whether tied to cultural challenges or other life experiences, I'm here to support you with understanding and care every step of the way on your healing journey.

Traumatic Loss/ Bereavement

I offer compassionate support for those facing traumatic loss and bereavement. Together, we’ll work through the intense emotions and challenges of losing a loved one, helping you process your grief and find a path toward healing, acceptance, and the possibility of peace.

Non-Death Loss

Grief extends beyond death. I provide counseling for non-death losses, such as significant life transitions or the loss of identity. My approach helps you navigate these profound changes, offering the tools to cope and guiding you toward resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.

Cultural Identity Grief

As a bicultural therapist, I understand the grief that comes from navigating cultural identity challenges. Whether it’s feelings of being “ni de aquí, ni de allá” or struggling with cultural expectations, I’m here to support you in finding balance, acceptance, and healing.

Cultural Trauma

I support clients dealing with cultural trauma, particularly those navigating the complexities of balancing cultural expectations and personal identity. My approach helps you understand and process these challenges, fostering resilience and the ability to live authentically within your cultural context.

Sexual Assault

I provide trauma therapy for survivors of sexual assault, using EMDR and other evidence-based approaches. My goal is to help you reclaim your sense of safety and empowerment, guiding you toward healing and reducing the trauma’s hold on your life.

Intergenerational Trauma

I specialize in helping you heal from intergenerational trauma, focusing on the wounds passed down through generations, especially within bicultural and immigrant families. Together, we’ll work to break the cycle of pain and create a more positive legacy for yourself and future generations.
